I’m sure most of you have heard the phrase “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” The basis of this quote or phrase is when you are given an opportunity, do something with it. When life gives you a lemon, don’t just say “thanks” and move on. Do something with the lemon, like make lemonade. To tell you the truth, I kind of live by this quote. I know I got my drive from my parents, who work their butts off and do well doing it. They never let their foot off the gas. When life gives them an opportunity, they tend to take it. I’m the same way. Not only that, but I try and find my own lemons on occasion. I don’t always like to wait for life to give me a lemon, I want to find it and create the opportunity. Though this quote is inspirational, I don’t feel it tells the entire story. I wanted to expand on it and make it my own, because I can!
I have been reviewing cell phone providers for a long time, longer than this blog has been around. I have a few “test” phones around my house just for this purpose. The reason I do it is because I got really tired of paying inflated prices on the big networks. I had Verizon for a long time and just accepted their prices. They do have one of the best networks around, but you pay a premium for it. I was never mad at their service, just their prices. I have had a Capital One 360 checking account for some time now, so I figured it would be time to provide a review of the service. Many of you might know of this service, but Capital One bought ING Direct and relabeled the banking service to Capital One 360. They offer both a checking and savings account, which are online only. They are essentially an electronic checking and savings account. I have really enjoyed the service and Capital One made it extremely easy to setup. Here is my Capital One 360 review.
I received an email yesterday from Capital One 360. Since I’m a member and have a checking and savings account with them, I was happy to see this change. Capital One 360 has been going through some changes, but they are making it a little better now. You can now deposit cash at Capital One ATMs! That’s right! It used to be a pain to deposit money into Capital One 360, especially cash.
One of the longer running pieces of personal finance advice is to never buy a new car. Seriously, most experts use the word “NEVER!” I am cool with that, especially as someone who has purchased quite a few new cars, I have learned my lesson. The justification of this advice is you can save a lot of money by just buying a car one or two years old. The majority of depreciation happens within the first year. After that, most cars depreciate on a sliding scale. Some do it slower than others, but I am not getting into that. So, let’s talk about this “never buy a new car” advice.
I have been testing out the Straight Talk service for a little bit now, so I figured I would post a review of how it has been going. There have been many questions from readers in regards to this topic, as I am sure many have been wondering how to get away from the big carriers, AT&T and Verizon. Since I am using the Straight Talk bring your own phone program, that is what I will be reviewing. Straight Talk uses SIM cards that are compatible with either AT&T’s or T-Mobile’s network.
