Dear Verizon Wireless, I have been a loyal customer of your cell phone service since I was 16. You provided the best service at a reasonable price. You allowed me to get a nice phone for very little money and pay it off on my bill every month. Then, you would reduce my bill after the phone was paid for. Those were the days! Unfortunately, times have changed. Here is our final goodbye letter letting you know that were are dumping you for someone a little less flashy, but way more affordable.

I think this is really interesting, especially since we are dealing with exploding tuition prices here in the US. I have been following the questions posed by Chase Bank back in February about average couples. It is pretty much about love and money. I answered the questions in my head, but not on here because I found one question that I wanted to dig into deeper. I have been having an internal debate about this question. There are some people on the side of a simple yes. They would pay off their spouse’s debt if they had it. They feel that their money is together. Some feel it is part of being married. I, on the other hand, don’t know what I would do, but I lean very much toward no. I think this question is conditional. Let me explain my reasons.

I was getting ready for tax season and decided to download my interest earnings from my regular big bank. It was after I logged in that I realized how bad of an interest rate my small savings account had. It blew me away how banks can get away with this. They get to provide me with some insignificant rate, while then go out and loan this money to someone for 9% APY. What a business model! How good is your savings account interest rate?

When Did Banks Stop Accepting Coin Deposits?

I have been working hard on building my emergency fund, so I figured I would finally cash in my coins. I have slowly built up my coins by just adding them into a large wine bottle (a really large bottle) over time. I didn’t pay attention to how many coins I have collected over the years, but I think the amount is getting pretty substantial. Instead of using them to purchase things I don’t need, I figured I would deposit them into my savings account. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been as easy as I thought it would be.

My Personal Debt Beginning

My personal debt story begins the same as many people’s does, with one credit card and the feeling of freedom on the horizon. I got my first credit card during my freshman year in college. I was working at the time, but didn’t earn much. I had enough to pay for gas and go out when I wanted to eat something that was not made during a creative cafeteria night. My credit card was a SonyCard, which gave me points to get free Sony electronics. This was a win-win for me because I love electronics and I love being able to “afford” the things I want. This card was the beginning of a long journey that I will never forget.
